I was guest speaker at the Franciscan Monastery Garden Guild on
Saturday, Jan 12, presenting pictures of last years Philadelphia Flower
Show Tour and answering questions on this year's tour.  If you live near this
garden you should stop by and visit. The Garden Guild meets at 9:30am
every 2nd Saturday and what an ambitious group. The addenda included
holiday activities, cook book, flower and herb show. They even sell their
own honey. Great inspiration. Contact is

A Garden Odyssey-In Search of the World's Most Creative Gardens is based
on a year of scholarship funded global travel. Scarfone presented slides on the
gardens he visited and signed his book
Professional Planting Design - an
Architectural and Horticultural Approach for Creating Mixed Bed Plantings
. I
would have loved a handout but the photos made the two hour presentation fly by.
He mentioned he might have other presentations which you can see on his web site
under "events".

Did you know there is a great self guided walking tour of Georgetown
University? I met
Marc Smith, Landscape and Grounds Manager,
Georgetown University
for a golf cart quick tour. Even minus the
thousands of bulbs buried under the snow waiting for spring, the views were
quintessential DC. Put this on your list for April.

The 90 year old Hyattsville Horticultural Society was revived in the summer of 2006.
Members are planning to join our Philadelphia Flower Show Tour so Saturday I stopped
by to give a short talk.  Recent activities include a "soil sale" and a trip to the Lotus
Festival at Aquatic Gardens. Upcoming is a mulch sale for the spring and a  gardening
advice column to be published in the Hyattsville Life and Times.  They meet the 3rd
Saturday of the month.
